That video makes me feel better.
Every so often i come back to this UA-cam video. I deeply love this and think about it often.
If there is a Heaven and I am lucky enough to enter it when I die, I will RUSH to the place where Setsuko is to meet her and I will wait patiently for the thousands that are in front of me to do the same!
Aki Kaurismäki has never made a lousy movie, but he's right, Ozu was a master,
The way the music shifts with his mood as the camera shots move up the stairs to his daughter's room even before he is shown on camera, so well done.
His first talkie, I believe (yes, 1936 well after Hollywood except Chaplin went to sound). I don't know if this lateness was an aesthetic choice of the perfectionist Ozu or the Japanese movie industry being late to the talkie table. A beautiful bittersweet film.
Listening to Stanley Kwan talk about how Ozu's films have affected him and caused him to "grow up", makes me realize that in many of Ozu's films the characters are presented to us as already having experienced some loss, although it is not generally mentioned directly. That is the starting point in Ozu's world as it is in the real world. We all start off observing people in our lives who have experienced some loss. Our widowed Grandparents or relatives who have lost financially and of course even our own parents have lost their childhoods and their youth by the time we arrive. So that is Ozu's starting point and his stories are about, what the characters will do about it from there. How will they relate to each other with impending change, and perhaps continued loss on the horizon. Ozu also gives us a rich and varied group of characters to observe and to empathize with. His characters are beautiful, because they are real. His camera technique adds to the importance of his stories. By putting his characters and all of the action in static frames and secondary frames, he is saying to us; Look at this, this is our lives and what happens here is important, the relationships are important and our losses and our hopes are important.
can somebody upload entire movies please these bits pieces annoys !

Ozu's masterpiece. Just look at Google audience reviews if you don't believe. All the earth will be enlightened, even the flowers and trees. - Kakitsubata (Muromachi period)

Could someone tell me the plot of story please😁
Noriko, the young single woman played by Setsuko Hara, lives with her extended family, who all rely on her salary as a secretary to supplement the household income. There is some concern about finding Noriko a husband, as she is getting a bit old by the standards of her time and culture to be successfully married. Noriko subtly evades efforts by her family to find her a spouse by agreeing to marry a family friend who is widowed and already has a young daughter. This marriage will require Noriko to move far away from her family, which results in the family being broken up geographically. All resign themselves to this sad but unavoidable change.
Music by Yosizi Ito. My favorite composer, but he's forgotten in morern times. I'm sad.
ahahah. love this
The online Japanese Film Festival has begun in Australia. So I wrote a little report about the first film I watched, which was directed by Yasujiro Ozu. :) wanderingwindblog.com/post/the-flavour-of-green-tea-over-rice-1952

Am I the only one who thinks that, at 0:21, the music sounds pretty similar to Across the Stars by John Williams?
The last scene of the last Ozu s film...so sad
0:09 The shot of the two women climbing the hill is one of the most exquisite shots in Ozu's work, and also (therefore) in all cinema. A great example of what I call Ozu's "magic eye": his infallible sense of composition. It's also the ONLY crane shot in all his extant films.
This has got to be the most devastating Ozu I've ever seen. I really didn't think what happened was really going to happen.
No more perfect scene has ever been shot.
Ah.. a fellow weeb uwu
*Minulle tulee Aki (Ei Japanilainen - vaan Suomalainen) KAURISMAKI ja Roy (Ei Ameriikkalainen - vaan Ruotsalainen) mieleen Bangkok-Jomppa suoraan Thaimaasta* ua-cam.com/video/g3vDMTsuGuQ/v-deo.html
Watching scenes from Ozu films make me ache deep in my soul for times that have long gone by and loved ones no longer here.
So badass Aki, you are my hero!
Resenha sobre o filme: magiadoreal.blogspot.com/2019/07/filme-do-dia-mae-tem-que-ser-amada-1934.html
this movie fragment has been released as extra in some Ozu's bluray or dvd?
And the award for the most unsuitable music in a key sequence goes to....
@Kaempfer M well that's not gonna justify it still
A sincere and humble tribute, very nice.
In 1937 when this movie was produced, Marco Polo Bridge Incident took place and the 2nd Sino-Japanese War began. In spite of such unsettled conditions, Japanese life in this movie seems to be peace and calm.
Isn't life fraught?
Probably those young Japanese boys and girls belonged to upper middle class because most of Japanese people could not afford to own their private cars in 1920`s and 30`s.
They are outlaws
I interviewed Kaurismaki, who’d had one too many, but responded to my questions so well & later told me it was his first intelligent interview w an American.
When was this
yes we would like when was this interview and where can we see it ?
Cool story and all but Where is the interview?
@@RyanOlmithere once was a time when not everything was on the web
@@ragamuffin98 nobody just interviews a celebrity for the hell of it. It would have been kept on a journal or a web page. You are really smart I did not know there was a time that internet didn't exist! Smart and very well-spoken too! A smart and well spoken person like yourself must be the heart of a friend group.
This and the Kaurismaki video are part from what documentary about Ozu? Can't find anything about it
wow!
😢😢😢
Chishū Ryū, one of the greatest actors. Restrained and moving at once.
I love the way he talks about Ozu
